Thanks for the great discussion about The Perks of Being Wallflower yesterday! For our last meeting of the year, we will pick books to read as a group for next year. Please comment about a book you would like to suggest as a "group read." Feel free to include a link to Amazon or review so others can take a look. Hi All!
For January let's talk about movie adaptations of books! Pick a good book that was turned into a great movie, a good book that was turned into a horrible movie, a bad book that worked well on the screen, or an execrable book that was an even worse movie! So many possibilities!!!

For something lighter in December....

You drudged through the assigned book; congratulations! What about something lighter? Share a book with a happy ending with the group! I challenge you to give more than a plot summary...what about the book made you want to share? Was it the plot, the author's writing style, or something else that made the book stand out to you? Try to be as specific as possible! See you all in the second week of December.

Hi LOL!
I will see you on Friday, April 19th! We are going to be discussing a non-fiction title that you have read. I love to read non-fiction! Right now I am reading a book by Sandy Sandberg called Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. It is great. I also love reading memoirs, travel books, true crime, and more! Don't let the word non-fiction scare you off. It isn't all textbooks and dusty history. Newer non-fiction tends to be written is a fluent, story-like manner! It is so much fun to read! I hope you will venture out of your comfort zone and try some out!

Hi LOL crew! Our next meeting is Thursday, February 21st! In honor of Valentine's Day, we will be discussing the topic of LOVE in your reading. So come prepared to talk about true love, love at first sight, star-crossed lovers, love gone bad, unrequited love, love triangles, and more!
Why is love such a prominent theme in literature?
What is your favorite type of love story? Do you like a fairytale romance, a slightly twisted romance (think Sookie Stackhouse Novels), star-crossed lovers (Romeo and Juliet), or a good love triangle (King Arthur, Guenevere, and Lancelot)?
Love seems to be a huge catalyst for action, both good and bad, in many novels...is that exaggerated for our entertainment? Why or why not?
Okay...think on that and come prepared to share!

HI GCHS LOL group! I am excited to meet next Thursday, the 21st for our first session of the year! I like Mr. O's post about what he read over break and I can't wait to hear about what all of you read. I actually had some time to relax and read also. I am reading the Accidental Tourist which was a recommendation from Mr. O himself. It is a good book. It follows the life an Obsessive Compulsive (at least that is my diagnosis) main character as he and his estranged wife deal with the murder of their young son. I just read Daddy Love by Carol Joyce Oates. It was a very creepy story about a boy who was abducted by a pedophile. I can’t say I recommend it, but I also found it very upsetting because my son is about the age of the young boy who was taken. I guess it makes you think which is the point, right? I also ready Kiss the Girls by James Patterson. He is such a popular author that I felt I needed to read just one book. It was creepy, but had sexual violence like Daddy Love. I think I need a nice, fun romantic book  How about you guys! What have you been reading???

Please come prepared to discuss a specific passage or theme in the book that made it meaningful to you! If you have time, please start posting some ideas ahead of time! Hi LOL! It seems like we just met! What a great Halloween celebration! Okay so Thursday let's talk about the time: past, present, and future. Please come prepared to talk about a book of your choice and discussion the following: How did the historical, present, or future setting in which the story took place affect the story? Would the story be the same if it had taken place in another era? Why do you think the author wrote the story in that particular era? What about books that were written a long time ago, but were in the present at the time that they were published. How do they read now that they actually take place in the past? What about books that were written in the past about the future, i.e. 1984? What are those like to read now that the future is actually in the past???? When reading the story, was it told chronologically or did the author jump back and forth between the present, future, and past? Do you like reading stories that jump around or do you prefer stories that following a chronological timeline? Alright! I'll see you on Thursday and please try and post one comment this week!!!
