For something lighter in December....

You drudged through the assigned book; congratulations! What about something lighter? Share a book with a happy ending with the group! I challenge you to give more than a plot summary...what about the book made you want to share? Was it the plot, the author's writing style, or something else that made the book stand out to you? Try to be as specific as possible! See you all in the second week of December.

  1. My favorite little kid book was called The West Texas Chili Monster. It was about a family who ran a resterant that served Mama's chili. The road to the resterant was bumpy and full of pot holes, so Mama and all her kids entered her chili in a contest. The smell of all the chili went up to space and attracted a space monster who came down and at a lot of the chili. It stopped after it at mama's chili. Unfortunatly the judges had not tried hers yet so she was disqualified, but then the monster came back and gave her some space chili. It was green, bubbely, and was like tar. The littlest child then had an idea. So they used the space chili to fill in the pot holes and when it cooled it was an extremely smooth green and black road. I loved this book and my mom read it to me a lot. I wish I had it. I checked it out from the IMC in the Elementary building.

  3. Hi Shannon!
That sounds like a great book! I just looked it up on Amazon! Isn't great how a special story can stay with us through the years. I absolutely loved, loved, loved the Magic Hat of Mortimer Wintergreen when I was little. I read that book over and over! I just looked it up on Amazon and see that it got a lackluster review in School Library Journal, but I still feel happy, safe, and content when I remember the crazy adventures of Amy, Joshua and Mortimer!

  4. My favorite happy ending is from "Something Wicked This Way Comes." A lot of seriously bad things happen during the book -- the three protagonists each have to confront their own mortality and the possibility of losing someone very close to them. As the story ends, the good guys have carried the day. Even though they have taken some lumps, they celebrate being alive. They are full of hope and ready to deal with whatever the future holds.

  5. My favorite ending was from the Shadow Falls series by C.C. Hunter. The girl ends up choosing the right guy in the end and there is a wedding between two other characters. There was struggle throughout the whole series, but in the end the main character finally finds herself and solves her problems. It was kind of an odd plot due to the book being a part of the supernatural/paranormal area of young adult novels. Overall it goes down on my list as one of my favorite series.
