October = Creepy Reads

Thanks for a great first meeting today. The memorable reads of the summer were interesting to hear about. Creepy is the theme for our next meeting on October 17th! Please comment below about your favorite or least favorite book in this category. Remember that we will talk about the Maze Runner in November.
Thanks!

  1. When I was in junior high I was home alone one night. I was in bed reading The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. I was at the part where the hero is hiding in the basement of a burned out building. A martian reaches inside and is groping around with his tentacles and is just inches from finding the hero . . . at which point there was a deafening lightning strike/thunder clap just outside my window. Wish I had video of it, because I'm sure I jumped five feet straight up. Great scare! Great book.

  2. In the second Beyonders book Seeds of Rebellion there is a part that creeps me out. The main characters and their friends have to go through a section of land that is cursed. The curse is little worms that once they infect you they take over your body and turn you into a zombie. This creeps me out because I have a fear of zombies. On rare occasions though the worms don't take over you and you are undead with worms living in you and you have to eat animal blood.

    1. The whole 'worm in your body thing' reminds me of The Host because the alien 'worms' invade and take over everybody's life here on Earth.
